The role of zoos in conservation and tackling illegal smuggling

KOARP had a great meeting with government ministers and representatives from CITES

Dr Tameer hosted a meeting a Duhok zoo with government representative and CITES representatives

On the 23rd October, Dr Tamer met with minister from the Department of Health and the Environment, a representative for CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and Duhok zoo administrators.

They got the chance to cover many sectors that KOARP are keen to engage with, including the smuggling of wild and endangered animals, the role of zoos as conservation and rehabilitation centres, microchips and the registration of wild animals.
